Creativity and the Arts with Young Children

Creativity and the Arts with Young Children
New Textbook by Isbell and Raines

Delmar has published a new early childhood textbook, Creativity and the Arts with Young Children. Dr. Rebecca Isbell and Dr. Shirley Raines co-authored this textbook, which will be used in early childhood education classes across the country.

A special feature of the book is the endorsement written by E.P. Torrance who is considered by many to be the “father of creativity.”

The book examines the creativity of young children and the creative teachers who work with them. It includes chapters that focus on play, art, music, creative drama, and movement. The final section provides approaches that can be used to integrate the arts across the curriculum and throughout the classroom.

Pictures of children engaged in creative activities are included in the text, many of which were taken at the Child Study Center and ETSU University School.

Dr. Isbell and Dr. Raines have been writing together since their doctoral studies. Currently, they have four books that they have co-authored. Dr. Isbell is the Director of the Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development at East Tennessee State University and Dr. Raines is the President of the University of Memphis.
