Connie F. Rogers

Assistant Director, Child Study Center

My name is Connie Rogers, known as “Ms Connie” in the ETSU Child Study Center (CSC) where I am employed. I have been working with children and families almost continuously since 1970. Associated with the ETSU Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development since 1993, I was a graduate assistant for the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) and for the Child Study Center before being hired as the first Assistant Director for the CSC. This has been an exciting experience for me as I had previously directed a child care program within a church setting, which was very different from working in a laboratory school environment. The challenges and opportunities for growth while working at the University have been both rewarding and at times, exhausting!

During my tenure at the CSC, I have been involved in the startup of a child care facility for our college students' children (Little Buccaneers Student Child Care Center); helped supervise the renovation of a new site for the CSC; helped coordinate “switching” locations for the CSC and Little Bucs; helped mentor and manage a faltering center in a neighboring city; acted as adjunct faculty in the Department of Human Development and Learning; taught courses for TECTA and tried to stay up-to-date on current trends in early childhood education through course study as well as attendance of and presentations at local, state, regional, and national conferences. I along with the Center staff have also participated in an on-going study of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education for several years.

Since our Center is a demonstration school, the facility is open to many visitors and our teachers are always interested in sharing knowledge with other early childhood educators. For further information, you can visit our web site at www.child.etsu.edu or call 423-439-4888 to set up an appointment for a visit.
